Bernerd W. "Bernie" Lillick

Bernerd W. "Bernie" Lillick, 90, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 2:30 P.M.  December 3, 2017 at his residence in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born April 4, 1927 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to parents, Emil & Blanch (Osborn) Lillick. He married Lena Mae Musgrave on February 19, 1972 in Mount Vernon, Illinois and she preceded him in death on December 29, 2015.

Mr. Lillick is survived by his step-children, Tonya Jones and husband, Kerry of Mount Vernon, Illinois; Mark Metheney and wife, Pam of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Angela Jack and husband, Greg of Herrin, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Deb Lillick of Kirkwood, Missouri; grandchildren, Evan Lillick and Megan Lillick; step-grandchildren, Justin Jones and wife, Yvonne and Chase Jones and wife, Jill; step-great-grandchildren, Carson Flanagan, Avery and Jameson Jones, and Conley Jones; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents; wife; son, Dana Lillick; and sister, Elaine Gibson preceded him in death.

Bernie served the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Baptist faith and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from University of Iowa. He worked as an electrical engineer at Lillick Electrical Service for 20 years and served as an ambassador for Angel Flight scheduling flights for children with Batten Disease to their clinical trials to help aid in the fight to cure this rare disease. In addition to his service work for Angel Flight, Mr. Lillick was instrumental in the procurement of “Project Lead the Way” for Mount Vernon Township High School. He worked from 2008 to 2010 until PLTW was firmly established for MVTHS, securing a more technical and higher quality education for generations to come.

 

Visitation: 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Decemeber 8, 2017 at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Merle Fullerton and Reverend Joshua York officiating.

Interment: Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois

For those who wish, memorials may be given to the tax free Ali's Angels Foundation to help a beautiful mother, "Donya J. Catlett", build a special playground theme park for handicapped children in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Memorials can be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Newell Funeral Home, P.O.
