Freddie Eugene Dent, 87, of Nason, Illinois passed away at 2:18 P.M. December 15, 2017 at his residence in Nason, Illinois. He was born January 4, 1930 in Marion, Illinois to the late William O. and Alice (Gowler) Dent. Fred first married Janice Mae (Harris) Dent on July 13, 1957. She preceded him in death on February 24, 1985. He later married Janet L. (Patterson) Dent on September 17, 1992.

Fred is survived by his wife of 25 years, Janet Dent of Nason,  Illinois; children, Sherry Clarke and husband, Edward of Waltonville, Illinois, Jeffrey E. Dent, and Barry S. “Bubba” Dent and wife, Kimmy of Mount Vernon, Illinois; stepchildren, Berlinda Bly, Edward Tomljenovich, and Vincent Tomljenovich; grandchildren, Angela Gunter and husband, Brian, Alison Clarke, Andrew Clarke, Timmy Ilbery, Rylee Dent, Rachael Dent, Bryanna Reeder and husband, Dustin and Connor Dent; great-grandchildren, Lukas Gunter, Elijah Gunter, Garrett Gunter, Gabe Gunter, Annabelle Gunter, Lilyann Lentz, Hayden Reeder, Keenan Reeder, Aubrey Dent, Kennedi Dent, and Kambree Dent; siblings, Wanda L. (Dent) Reynolds, Jackie “Jack” Dent and wife, Margie, Marilyn “Sue” Jones and husband, Dire; siblings-in-law, Marcella Dent and Tina Giliam and husband, Danny; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Fred was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Dent and siblings, Leon Dent and wife, Minnie, Earl Dent and wife, Faye, and Lester “Bob” Dent.

Fred worked in the Nason coal mines at 18 years old before he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952-1953. He went on to work as welder maintenance for Fisher Body/General Motors for 34 years. Fred was also the owner of Bubba’s Place in Nason for 28 years. He was a member of Amvets, VFW, Ducks Unlimited, and United Auto Workers. Fred enjoyed watching Nascar and the Saint Louis Cardinals in his spare time. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Fred was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation: Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville, Illinois. Funeral Service: Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville, Illinois with Pastor Jason Newell officiating. Interment: Abner Cemetery in Nason, Illinois. The American Legion Post #141 will conduct full military honors at the cemetery. Memorials: Abner Cemetery.
