Julia Mae Miller, 80, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 3:45 P.M. January 29, 2018 at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born September 21, 1937 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to parents, Andrew and Marie (Montgomery) Meredith.  She was married to Early Miller and he preceded her in death.

Julia is survived by her adopted daughter, Doris Meredith and special friend, Larry Edwards of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Maleasha Meredith, Korvea Meredith, Devin Edwards, Camisha Wright (Jimmy), Sherelle Edwards, Major “Jermaine” Monroe, and Michael Meredith; great-grandchildren, Shirley, Tynajia, Kevin, Bobie, Felicia, and Duania; brothers, Willie B. Meredith of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Bill Meredith of Michigan; special cousin, Mose Montgomery of Washington D.C.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Mrs. Miller was a loving foster parent to Anthony “Tony” Dupree, Darlene Dupree, and also raised Major “Jermaine” Monroe, all of whom survive.

Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her grandmother, Julia Jackson; one son, Major James “Cookie” Meredith; cousin, Ruby Williams; uncle, Jessie Montgomery; and one nephew, Joseph “Joe” Meredith.

Julia attended Washington Grade School in Mount Vernon and later worked for Leaf Inc. as a candy maker for 23 years.  She later worked as a landlord in Mount Vernon for many years before becoming a real estate agent for 30 years.  She was a housekeeper for 10 years.  Mrs. Miller was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and was a true BINGO and card game fanatic.  She enjoyed spending time with her family more than anything, was truly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
