Earl Edward Carlson

October 6, 1926 ~ June 28, 2019 (age 92)

Earl Edward “Buster”  Carlson, 92, of Salem, Illinois passed away at 9:20 P.M. June 28, 2019 at Nature Trail Health Care Center in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born October 6, 1926 in Lyons, Michigan to the late Albert and Esther (Hanson) Carlson. He married Clara H. "Toddy" Glenn on July 5, 1952 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with fifty-two years of marriage before she preceded him in death on November 13, 2004.

Earl is survived by his sons, Leonard Carlson and wife, Deborah of Salem, Illinois, Edward Carlson, and wife, Jenny of Salem, Illinois; daughter, Katrenna Michael of Salem, Illinois; grandsons, Benjamin and wife, Jenny, Jacob and wife, Christina, Nathaniel, and Troy McCarty and wife, Amber; granddaughter, Lora Speiser and husband Matt; great-grandchildren, Katelyn McCarty, Skye McCarty, Darrell Speiser, Fiona, and Peter; and several nieces and nephews, including, Billie Ruth Strickland, Carol Cronin, and Glenda Dobbs.

In addition to his parents and wife, Earl was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Penny Mechelle Carlson; sisters, Betty Benson and June Brooks; brother, Herb Carlson; and son-in-law, Al Michael. 

Earl proudly served in the U.S. Navy from October 27, 1944 to July 29, 1946. He worked at Joy Technology’s as a machinist where he retired after many years. Earl was a member of Antioch Christian Church in Texico, Illinois and the American Legion in Sandwich, Illinois. He was a loving father, grandfather, and lovingly known as Pa Earl. Earl will be truly missed by everyone he knew.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at the Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Chapel in Woodlawn, Illinois with Brother Jonathan Schnautz officiating. Members of the Mount Vernon American Legion Post #141 will conduct Full Military Honors at the cemetery. Interment will follow.  Memorials may be made to the Antioch Christian Church in Texico, Illinois or the SSM Health at Home Hospice.
