Ernest Ray Badger, 57, of Woodlawn, Illinois passed away at 1:00 A.M. November 13, 2019 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri. He was born September 21, 1962 in Friars Point, Mississippi to Roosevelt Jr. and Vernell (Taylor) Badger.
Ernest is survived by his mother, Vernell Badger of Mount Vernon, Illinois; children, Alex Rowe of Saint Louis, Missouri, Ernest Badger Jr. of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Artrena Badger of Gastonia, North Carolina, Ethan Badger of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Autumn Badger of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Elijah Badger of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Azelia Badger of Mount Vernon, Illinois; former wife, Susan Ray-Badger of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Preston Rowe, Praxton Rowe, Prazton Rowe, Ernest Ray Badger III, Jameson Cauthran, and Celine Cauthran; siblings, Tracy Badger of Wyatt, Missouri, Nichelle King and husband, Greg of Saint Louis, Missouri, Kischa Jackson and husband, Allen of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Alice Badger of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Vanessa Burnett and husband, Ira of Saint Louis, Missouri, Edvis Badger of Owensboro, Kentucky, Eddie Badger and wife, Tela of Mesa, Arizona, Willie Tinner and wife, Sandra of Clarksdale, Mississippi, Rhonda Hampton of Friars Point, Mississippi, Ethel Howard of Greenville, Mississippi, Roosevelt Badger III of Friars Point, Mississippi.
Ernest was preceded in death by father, Roosevelt Badger, Jr. and brother, Tyris Williams
Ernest was a Mount Vernon Township High School graduate from the class of 1981. He then attended Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. Between the years 1977 and 1981in football, wrestling, track and field, Ernest was a two time south seven wrestling champion at 185 Ib. weight class, three time regional wrestling champion (1979 – 1981), sectional wrestling champion in 1981 (first in school history), three time state qualifier (1979 – 1981), all-state in 1981 placing fourth at state, holds Rams single season winning streak of thirty-seven, all-conference and all-south in football (1979 – 1980), wrestling scholarship to Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville, NCAA division II national champion at 190 Ib. weight class in 1983, second in 1984, and fifth in 1985, and named all-american in division II wrestling sophomore through Senior seasons.
A Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Antioch international Assembly in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 P.M. with Reverend Ronald Johnson and Reverend Delano Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois.
