Phillip J Fally

September 4, 1953 ~ January 23, 2019 (age 65)

Phillip J. Fally, 65, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, died at 7:19 A.M. on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at his home. Phill was born September 4, 1953 in Centralia, Illinois, the son of the late Aaron Griffith and Merle (Lowe) Fally. On December 24, 1978, he married Donna Rongey at their residence in Mount Vernon and she survives.

In addition to his wife of 40 years, Phill is survived by his daughter, Felicia Fally of Saint Charles, Missouri; son, Wesley Fally and wife, Stephanie of Ballwin, Missouri; siblings, Eunice Weems and husband, J.C. of Woodlawn, Illinois, Hazel Meinhart and special friend, Ernie Garbe of Effingham, Illinois, Jimmy Brenton of Centralia, Illinois, and Gene Brenton of Centralia, Illinois; brother-in-law, Larry Rongey and wife, Kris of Des Moines, Iowa; and several close cousins, nieces, nephews, and several pets, including his beloved dog “Kitty.”

Phill was proud of his “Horsecreek” heritage. His strong work ethic was a result of his growing up in this very rural hard working part of the world. Phill worked most of his adult life as a carpenter and general contractor, and took great pride in his work.  He enjoyed life, so as much as he took pride in his work, he liked to enjoy leisure time as well. He was the co-founder of the legendary Hughey Men’s Slo-Pitch softball team. He coached youth baseball for several years, and served as a Pee Wee basketball coach at Rome Grade School in Dix. He was active in charitable causes having served both Habitat for Humanity and CASA of Jefferson County. Phill loved Illini basketball, New York Yankees baseball, camping, fishing, and spending time barbequing with family and friends.  He will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Burial will follow at Fally Cemetery in Farrington Township, rural Jefferson County.
