Sterling Kent Utlaut of Waltonville, Illinois passed away peacefully at his home on November 4, 2018.  He was born October 17, 1942 in Clinton County, Illinois to Harold and Orvetta (Ulmet) Utlaut. 

He took Sharon (England) Utlaut as his bride May 1, 1965 and they have spent a loving 53 years as husband and wife. 

He is survived by his wife Sharon and two children, daughter, Sheila Robbers and husband, Shawn and son, Shawn Utlaut and wife, Chasity, all of Mount Vernon, Illinois.  Sterling is also survived by a brother, Gene Utlaut and wife, Sue of Sesser, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Donald.

Sterling is a veteran who served in the Unites States Army from November 1966 to 1968.  He worked for F.S. as a salesman in his younger years.  He worked as a coal miner for Inland Steel Coal Co. and later for Consolidation Coal Co. for thirty years, retiring in 2002.

Sterling was an avid NASCAR fan and a lifetime member of the UMWA.  He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather who always worked very hard to provide for his family. 

As per his wishes a visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville, Illinois.  A funeral service will then be held at the Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Chapel in Woodlawn, Illinois at 1:30 P.M. with Mr. Tracy Thomas officiating.  Members of the Mount Vernon American Legion Post #141 will conduct Full Military Honors at the cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Old Shiloh Cemetery Association, in loving memory of Sterling Utlaut.
