Phylis C. Bernard, 75, of Bonnie, Illinois passed away at 5:40 P.M. November 13, 2019 at Saint Louis University Hospital. She was born January 25, 1944 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Philip and Mary Belle (Briesacher) Bean. Phylis married Jerry Dean Bernard on August 28, 1965 in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with 54 years of marriage.
In addition to her beloved husband, Phylis is survived by her sons, Carl Bernard and wife, Jenè of Acworth, Georgia, Jody Bernard of Mount Vernon, Barry Bernard of Mount Vernon, and Reginald Bernard of Bonnie; daughters, Cindy Walsh and husband, Shawn of Canton, Georgia and Windy Howard and husband, Sam of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Patrick, Jacob, Colton, Conner, Jackie, Jovey, and Michael; siblings, Phil Bean and wife, Shelby of Texico, Illinois, Marsha Jones of Sesser, Illinois, and Tana Bernard and husband, Dale of Virgina; sister-in-law, Sue Bean of Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Phylis was preceded in death by her brothers, Perry Bean and Marty Bean.
Phylis was the art teacher and head of the art department at Waltonville Grade and High School for 39 years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Phylis was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
A Visitation will be held Monday, November 18, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Smith Cemetery in Belle Rive, Illinois with Mr. Jason Newell officiating. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made to the Waltonville High School for the Art Department.
